Variety Meat

The distress call came over radio, not via subspace—it’s years old at this point. The autonomous weapons researchers at our outpost on Baltra did their work too well, it seems. The machines they developed to fight our enemies on the other side of the planet’s DMZ ran amok. Having wiped out the enemy, they turned on their creators.

Who even knows what’s left after all this time? But orders are orders: Recover the research files and evacuate the base.

Variety Meat is a one-shot adventure for the science fiction TTRPG of your choice, created for the Sci-Fi One-Shot Jam 2025. The theme this year was adaptation, and I got kinda meta with it: The adventure is a (very loose) adaptation of the classic Philip K. Dick short story "Second Variety," which is itself about self-adaptive robots (and checks the "This Drone War Is Fucked, Man" secondary-theme box).
